Stress and Sleep: The Cycle You Can Break
Stress wrecks sleep, and poor sleep makes everything feel more stressful. Understanding this loop is the first step to escaping it, and small evening changes make a surprising difference.
Read the PostYears of long hours, pressure and putting everyone else first take a toll. When stress builds and sleep slips, energy drains, weight creeps on and the healthy habits you know you should keep never quite stick.
Through evidence-based lifestyle medicine coaching, I help busy professionals get to the root of what is really draining their health, then build simple, sustainable habits that fit real, demanding lives. Small changes ripple outwards into lasting transformation.
If any of these ring true, you are exactly who I work with.
Knowledge was never your problem. The gap between knowing and doing is where coaching comes in, and closing that gap is precisely what I do.
My coaching is built on the six pillars of lifestyle medicine, the evidence-based foundations of preventing and improving chronic conditions. We work across all six as one connected system, because your sleep affects your food choices, your stress affects your sleep, and no pillar stands alone.
Real food that balances blood sugar and steadies energy, without diets, guilt or giving up the good things.
Movement that fits your life and your joints, from post-meal walks to strength work you can do anywhere.
Routines that rebuild deep, restorative sleep, the foundation every other pillar rests on.
Practical ways to regulate a busy nervous system, so pressure stops running the show.
Relationships and community as genuine health interventions, backed by decades of evidence.
The behaviour change layer that makes everything else stick, designed around your identity and your real week.
I get it. As a former solicitor, I spent more than thirty years grinding through long weeks while my own health took a back seat. Late-night emails, skipped meals and that constant feeling of running on empty were simply the price of the job, or so I told myself.
My body eventually sent a louder message. In 2021 I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, and in 2022 I faced cancer. Those two wake-up calls changed everything. Through whole foods, time-restricted eating and steady lifestyle change, I put my diabetes into remission, lost two and a half stone and have maintained it for years.
That experience is why I retrained as a health coach. I qualified through the Health Coaches Academy, I am registered with the UK & International Health Coaching Association, and I am currently completing the Certificate in Lifestyle Medicine (CertLM). I combine what actually worked for me with proven coaching techniques, because lasting change comes from addressing root causes, not symptoms.
No complicated diets or impossible routines, just practical, evidence-based ways to reclaim your energy and protect your future health. It works better, and is far more enjoyable, when you are not doing it alone.
Every programme starts with a conversation, so we can be sure the fit is right before you commit to anything.
Personalised one-to-one coaching built around the six pillars. Together we uncover what is really draining your energy, design habits that fit your actual life and keep you accountable until they stick. Sessions are online, so you can work with me from anywhere in the UK.
Start the ConversationLong hours and constant pressure quietly erode a team's health, focus and resilience. I bring lifestyle medicine into workplaces through talks, workshops and coaching. Law and property firms are my specialism after three decades in legal practice, and I work with businesses of all kinds.
Enquire for Your FirmAlongside my coaching practice, I have a special interest in prehabilitation: using the weeks before an operation to build strength, nourishment and calm.
Surgery asks a great deal of the body, and the evidence is clear that people who go into an operation stronger, better nourished and less stressed tend to cope better and recover more quickly. The time between diagnosis and surgery is a genuine window of opportunity, not simply a wait.
I coach people through that window across food, movement, sleep and stress, always working alongside the advice of your surgical and medical team, so you arrive on the day in the best possible shape and give your recovery a head start.
Ask About Preparing for SurgeryLasting change starts with understanding where you are now. That is why I invite you to a complimentary coaching session, with no obligation and no hard sell. Together we will work out where you are, where you want to be and how I can help you get there.
Sessions are held online via video call and last 45 minutes.
Jo has given me a gift that I cannot thank her enough for. Her dedication, organisation, expertise, kindness and genuine nature have helped me to make changes in my life that I have wanted to make for 20 years but did not have the resources to do so.
CLJo has been massively influential on my relationship with my body and how to fuel it best. I feel so much more balanced and understand how to manage my food intake to enable me to feel on top form every day. I could not recommend her enough. I don't feel like I will ever go on a diet again.
LCWorking with Jo was a real pleasure. She even managed to engage my reluctant husband - by week one he was the driving force behind new family mealtime rules! Jo is clearly an expert with lived experience, empathetic and supportive but not afraid to challenge us when needed.
